Where Do You Find Inspiration?

For as long as I can remember, music has been a source of meaning and inspiration. Recently, I discovered an artist whose story and voice have resonated and inspired me: Mon Rovia. A survivor of a civil war in Liberia, he was rescued from becoming a child soldier and adopted in America. His journey is remarkable, but what captivates me is how he has built a following by authentically sharing his story and ideas through his lyrics.

One lyric, in particular, has prompted a moment of self-reflection for me. It asks:

Did you leave your mark?
Can they catch your spark?
Did you trade your torch
For a silver fork
And a life in the dark?

I hear this as a call to examine my own life. Have I traded my ability to shine and make an impact on the world for the comfort of convenience and the fleeting satisfaction of material possessions? Have I surrendered a part of myself, and in doing so, lost my ability to fully experience the beauty of the world and my place in it?

This message has become a guiding principle as I commit to writing for No Future and sharing my ideas. I've realized I've spent too long allowing the pursuit of unimportant things to hold me back from sharing what truly matters. It's a silence I can no longer justify. My thoughts will find their audience, and they will make the impact they are meant to make.

So I invite you to join me in this reflection. Look inward and ask: what is your unique way of illuminating the world? What have you given up for the sake of convenience and possessions? Beyond our basic needs, what is truly worth sacrificing our authentic selves for?

Our torches may have dimmed from time to time, but they are never extinguished. We can reignite them at any time. The question is, are you ready to live your authentic self and create your own No Future today?

The lyric discussed is at 1:40 in this video.
